Privacy Policy

Settle.ie publishes free guides for moving to Ireland. This page explains exactly what data we collect, who processes it, and how you can opt out or get it removed. Plain English. No surprises.

Who we are

Settle.ie is an independent guide site published under the Settle.ie trading name, based in Ireland. For any privacy question, or to exercise the rights listed below, email editor@settle.ie.

What we collect, and why

Analytics

We currently run two analytics tools side-by-side for a few weeks while we compare them, after which we'll keep one and remove the other:

  • Google Analytics 4 (property G-JBSD5T7RJV) — sets cookies, collects anonymised page views, IP-derived approximate location, browser/device info, and referral source. Data is processed by Google in the EU and US.
  • Umami — a privacy-focused analytics tool. Does not set cookies and does not collect personal data. Records aggregate page views, referrer, browser, and country only.

Newsletter and lead-magnet downloads

If you submit your email address (e.g. to download the Ireland Moving Checklist or subscribe to the newsletter), your email and the form you submitted from is sent to Beehiiv, our newsletter platform. Beehiiv stores your email, sends the confirmation and any future newsletters, and lets you unsubscribe with one click from any email. Beehiiv privacy policy.

Email submissions are sent over HTTPS to a Cloudflare Worker which forwards them immediately to Beehiiv — Settle.ie does not run a database and does not store your email ourselves.

Hosting

The site runs on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare's edge logs (IP, request path, response status) are processed for security and abuse-prevention purposes per Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Social sharing widget

We include the Mediavine Grow Faves social sharing widget (faves.grow.me) on every page. It enables the bookmarking/share UI and may set cookies for the same purpose. See Mediavine's privacy policy.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

Settle.ie has applied (or will apply) for Google AdSense to display contextual advertisements on the site. When AdSense is active, Google may set cookies and use device identifiers to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalised ads at Google Ads Settings, and learn more at How Google uses cookies in advertising.

Cookies, in summary

  • Strictly necessary: none — the site has no login.
  • Analytics: Google Analytics (cookies, can be blocked); Umami (no cookies).
  • Sharing widget: Mediavine Grow Faves (functional cookies).
  • Advertising: Google AdSense (when active).

You can clear or block cookies via your browser settings. Doing so won't break any functionality on Settle.ie — at most you'll see a default share UI and we'll be unable to count you in our analytics.

Third-party links

Our guides link extensively to government sources (Citizens Information, Revenue, ISD, DETE, etc.) and to commercial providers (banks, brokers, insurers, airlines, etc.). We are not responsible for those sites' privacy practices. Some commercial links may be affiliate links — see How Settle.ie is funded for the disclosure.

Your rights (GDPR)

If you're in the EU/UK, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you (mainly: your email if you subscribed)
  • Have inaccurate data corrected
  • Have your data deleted ("right to be forgotten")
  • Object to processing or withdraw consent
  • Lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie)

To exercise any of these, email editor@settle.ie. We'll act within 30 days.

Children

Settle.ie is not directed at children under 16. We don't knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has subscribed, contact us and we'll remove the record.

Changes

When we add or remove a third-party service, we update this page and bump the "last updated" date at the top. Significant changes (new processors, new categories of data) will also be flagged in the next newsletter.
